Meshico bills itself as an upscale restaurant in The Pointe at Palm Jumeirah. They look to bring a lively energy, great views of the surrounding area, and of course, authentic Mexican cuisine to Dubai.

This inspiration is easily apparent in their restaurant layout, which is filled with bright colours and lights, which in our opinion also helps with visibility. We think the seats are adequately spaced out so customers shouldn’t have a hard time navigating the place.

Those who wish to enjoy the view may also want to try sitting outside for a picture perfect meal.

The food was quite spectacular both in taste and in presentation. We think the menu manages a good balance between popular favourites like tacos and salsas while also introducing new gastronomical delights like their bone marrow and steaks.

Service is quite decent, with the staff well-versed in explaining items that customers may not be familiar with. However, we did experience some waiting time for our main courses, possibly due to the sheer quantity of diners finishing up their starters.

Despite their upscale nature, Meshico does offer a lot of live entertainment for its guests such as music, bands, and even a few pranks. This makes the dining experience very lively though we also think that diners looking for a quieter affair may want to keep this in mind prior to booking.

With their delicious food, vibrant energy, and amazing service which does include valet parking, Meshico definitely stands as one of the most interesting places to eat in Dubai.

Pros

  • Great, lively atmosphere
  • Delicious food options

Cons

  • Lively energy may not be conducive for customers looking for a more intimate affair
  • Some slow down when it comes to serving main courses

“Awesome location, great food and extremely courteous and professional staff. Our server explained every dish we selected along with making suggestions and offering background on the F&B served at the restaurant. The place also had really, really talented entertainers – Mariachi band, dancers, moko jumbies, practical pranksters, etc. A must visit for a complete cultural experience!! – Maureen Fernandes

“If you want to eat authentic Mexican cuisine and watch a live mariachi band tango and salsa then this is the place for you”

“Amazing! If you want to eat authentic Mexican cuisine and watch a live mariachi band tango and salsa then this is the place for you. The entire team were so lively and funny. They approach customers one on one and entertain them by playing pranks. My friends and I had an amazing time as we celebrated my birthday there! Their server Christian was a highlight as he showed us some salsa dance moves.” – Nafi Al Kindy

A stone’s throw from the pool, Tortuga is a Mexican restaurant and bar located in Jumeirah. It serves a lot of delicious Mexican food ranging from large portions meant for sharing and smaller, solo servings for individual diners.

The facility is quite cosy, with a relaxed, casual feel given that you will usually find pool goers dining in the establishment. We think the overall ambiance is pretty conducive for dining, especially if you just wanted a delicious bite to eat while getting a good view of the water.

The food is quite good, most of them being popular favourites like burritos, quesadillas, and salsas of varying heat levels depending on your taste. What surprised us is the level of customisation they afford their vegetarian options, making them a great place to check out for plant-eating diners.

We think this is a decent option for guests with kids too, as they have a customised kid’s menu for the picky eaters.

Service is quite decent and the staff are knowledgeable and helpful enough with questions. Food does take some time to get to the table however, so we think people looking to grab a quick dinner or snack may want to keep this in mind.

Their opening times can take some time to get used to, in our opinion. Diners looking to make a reservation may want to double check the schedule on their website or by giving them a call in advance.

Pros

  • Impressive array of vegetarian options
  • Great dining ambiance by the water

Cons

  • No lunch service from Mondays to Thursdays
  • Food takes some time to be served

If you want to eat delicious Mexican food on a comfortable, windy veranda overlooking the sea then Luchador may just be the palace for you. The cantina is a rather relaxing restaurant that you can visit if you wish to try authentic Mexican food made with a modern twist when it comes to their presentation.

The menu is quite small but they do have most of the favourite Mexican dishes you might expect in such a place. The twist mostly comes with how they present their food, which we think gives the impression of a more upscale establishment.

Food is quite delicious and you can always ask the staff to customise a few dishes for vegetarian or younger diners as they may not always be listed on the menu. Service is attentive enough though we think they could be a bit more proactive in asking their diners if they want a refill on their drinks.

The layout of the place is excellent, with enough spaces in-between seats, allowing diners to really take in the view and the breeze.

We think diners will want to keep an eye out for their special nights and offers if they really want to get a good deal. Every Sunday, they will have a ‘Buena Vista Lunch’ where guests can feast on some authentic Mexican favourite lunch items for only AED 299.

On the other hand, customers looking for a good time may want to come in on Tuesday evenings for their Margarita Tuesdays. Here, they can get any flavour for only AED 25!

We think guests will really appreciate the good food, great venue, and special deals that Luchador offers. Definitely check out the place when you’re in the area.

Pros

  • Specials are pretty good value for money
  • Staff is willing to accommodate special requests like vegetarian when asked

Cons

  • Staff does not refill drinks automatically like in Mexico
  • Menu is a little on the small side

Customer Reviews

“Ambiance, view and quality of food surpassed my expectations”

“Had a great experience dining last night. Ambiance, view and quality of food surpassed my expectations. Vegetarian nachos were not listed on the menu although the kitchen made them and I can honestly say they were the best nachos I’ve ate in Dubai (both myself, a vegetarian and non-vegetarian) people said the same. I highly recommend you add them to your permanent menu!!! We will definitely be back.” – Katherine Cebrowski

“Finger licking tasty food, flavourful drinks and the view is just stunning”

“This restaurant is a hidden gem at the Palm Jumeirah. Finger licking tasty food, flavourful drinks and the view is just stunning – try to go just before sunset to get some wonderful pictures!” – Abhishek Pandya

Fancy a delicious lunch or dinner at a very colourful and vibrant place by the Palm West Beach? You might want to try out Señor Pico just by the marina.

The ambiance of the place is very clean and casual, with colourful columns adorning the walls, which we think reminds us of a more kid-friendly location. We think diners will definitely appreciate the close proximity to the beach, as well as the comfortable breeze wafting by their al fresco seating area.

Their array of food options is decently-sized; not too big and not too small. We are happy to report that guests shouldn’t have to worry as most favourites like nachos, taquitos, bowls, and quesadillas are all available and delicious.

We think portion sizes are pretty good, which does help justify the slight increase in price as the restaurant is located near the beach after all. In our opinion, it is a convenient dining spot for people already enjoying their day by the water.

However, we think parking is a little difficult though, due to its location. In our opinion, it may be better to leave the vehicle in a more convenient parking spot prior to walking to the restaurant.

Staff are very attentive and if you have special requests like vegetarian options or if you’re concerned about allergies, you can easily alert them to it.

Definitely check out Señor Pico for a delicious seaside lunch when you’re near Palm Beach.

Pros

  • Staff are very attentive to special requirements like allergies
  • Very comfortable beachside ambiance

Cons

  • Prices are a little on the expensive side compared to other places
  • Parking can be a little difficult

Customer Reviews

“A different approach to other neighbour restaurants/beach clubs”

“Nice spot at West Beach! A different approach to other neighbour restaurants/beach clubs, but still a nice atmosphere and vibe, especially at sunset. Food is good, portions are decent size – prices are a bit higher than average. Overall I would recommend a visit, but in fairness it wouldn’t be my first choice in the area.” – Gianni Di Raimondo

“The place has amazing view and ambience”

“The place has amazing view and ambience. Food is delicious. I enjoyed the tacos, quesadillas and guacamole and many more. Staff is very nice. Recommended.” – Gülnabat Baliyeva

Jules Bar in the Le Méridien offers a good mix of Filipino and Mexican cuisine, making them quite a unique gastronomical spot in the area.

Diners looking for the familiar favourites will find all the recognizable food they may want while more adventurous diners may want to try some of the house specialties on offer.

Food prices are quite competitive, and you can get an array of options when it comes to both meat and vegetarian dishes. In our opinion, their snacks menu is also quite good for diners looking to drink more than settle for a proper meal as it is filled with some really great staples like chicken and calamari.

We think the ambiance at Jules is quite decent. In our opinion, the layout does remind us more of an underground bar, or perhaps a live house with an attached restaurant, which isn’t too far off.

The restaurant does play live music by live bands, lending well to the atmosphere. However, we think the lights could be a little bit brighter while people are still eating as it makes it hard to read the menu once the show starts.

We also think the space is a little cramped, which is even more apparent in the evenings when the shows start. In our opinion, this is a place best visited by friends looking to get a delicious meal while also appreciating the unique ambiance provided by the live music performances.

The ambiance and noise may not always be for everyone, but if live music is your thing, then Jules is definitely a good spot to check out.

Pros

  • Delicious mix of Mexican and Filipino cuisine
  • Competitive prices compared to other places

Cons

  • Lights are a little dim, especially in the evening
  • Layout can be a little cramped in the evenings due to influx of customers
