Led by Chef Akira Back, the restaurant is a welcome addition to the Palm Hotel in Dubai. The restaurant takes pride in their modern Japanese cuisine infused with Korean influences.
We think the venue was quite unique and dramatic when we first stepped foot in the restaurant. The entrance is a neon vortex that really highlights the modern feel the place is going for.
The dark metal interiors can feel quite intimidating at a glance but in our opinion, the lighting was quite adequate for sitting and talking with a partner.
We think couples may want to book a table at the terrace however. It boasts a very romantic view of the skyline in the evening.
Service was fast and attentive and our waiters impressed us with their expertise. Other customers also report a similar positive experience with them as well.
Based on the menu items, food is best eaten sharing style, which is perfect for couples. Their tuna and signature rolls are some of the best options on the menu in our opinion.
We do want to note that since the place serves Japanese cuisine with a twist, this may not be the best place to visit for those looking for an authentic Japanese experience.
The place is mostly open for dinner service but they do open for lunch on Saturdays. Although they can be quite strict with children as well.
We think adventurous couples might want to give this modern-style restaurant a try. We think they might find the experience surprising.

Food is very delicious as well. While we think their options for meat dishes like lamb and beef are similar to other areas, their seafood appetisers and mains are quite excellent.
If your partner is a seafood connoisseur, then they might enjoy its grilled options. We think the tiger prawns, pan-fried octopus, and sea bass are all exceptional dishes.
Yes, some of the dishes can be quite pricey but we think it’s kind of expected, given that this is a restaurant by the beach.
We particularly like how the restaurant serves lunch. This makes it a great choice for couples who pull evening shifts and thus, go on dates in the afternoon.
Of course, the surroundings can be quite hot especially in the summer months when eating lunch. In our opinion, the seaside breeze and ambiance do make up for it.

If you and your partner are craving authentic Japanese cuisine, then TOMO is definitely a restaurant to check out. They offer food made with seasonal ingredients imported straight from Japan, giving them a lot of authenticity.
When it comes to the food, TOMO offers a set menu which we do think comes with its own pros and cons.
If you have a particularly picky partner, it may not suit them as you are unable to always choose the items you want.
On the other hand, we think more adventurous diners may appreciate something new. You will be pushed to try dishes you may not otherwise order and you might just pick up a new favourite along the way.
You can choose to eat indoors or outdoors, and you can even try eating at one of the authentic Japanese tables where you sit on the floor without your shoes.
The views from the outdoor tables are excellent. You can watch the Dubai cityscape slowly light up as you and your partner dine on fresh sashimi and well-cooked wagyu beef pieces.
We think their staff was very attentive during the service. Though we think they should be a bit more proactive in letting us know which drinks and items are not available as we sat down.
TOMO is considered one of the top Japanese restaurants in Dubai, and for the price, we think it definitely lives up to the hype.

Situated in a prime location in Souk Madinat Jumeirah, Folly is a good restaurant to dine in. Their relaxed, comfortable environment makes for an intimate dining experience.
Guests have the option of choosing to dine indoors or on the outdoor terrace with great views of the Madinat waterways and the Burj Al Arab.
The surrounding foliage also gives Folly some character as well, reminding us of a garden of sorts. We think the plants do give the restaurant a refreshing air.
You and your partner can check out some experimental and innovative dishes by Chefs Nick Alvis and Scott Price. You can try items like oxtail and hen’s egg which the chefs prepare in a rather experimental way.
As such, we do think that such experience may not be for less-adventurous diners. Some customers also found some portions to be quite small for the price.
In a way, it reminds us of a fine dining establishment. If this is the kind of experience your partner prefers, then they shouldn’t find too many surprises.
In our opinion, the dining experience is quite good, even with some of the more experimental dishes. Staff were very attentive throughout service and the food arrived at the tables at a good pace.
With fine views and a spectacular service, Folly is definitely a place to check out for adventurous couples.
