The Best German Restaurants in Dubai
We chose the following restaurants based on the following criteria:
1. Newton
RATING | |
MENU | ★★★★★ (5/5) |
AMBIANCE | ★★★★★ (5/5) |
CUSTOMER SERVICE | ★★★★☆ (4/5) |
ACCESSIBILITY | ★★★★☆ (4.5/5) |
With aesthetics paying tribute to a similar Mad Men styled bar in Berlin, you are sure to find a great dining experience at the Newton. Named after prolific fashion photographer Helmut Newton, the restaurant offers a good array of delicious starters, main courses, and of course, drinks.
The interior of the restaurant itself is quite distinct, with a touch of elegance. We think the use of emerald green and low incandescent lights gives the place a relaxed and quiet feel though some diners may miss the slight buzz of activity.
Diners get a choice of eating indoors or in their outdoor dining areas, though we think many guests may prefer to eat inside during the hot summer months. Still, this does give visitors plenty of space to choose from, allowing them to choose an arrangement that works for them.
On the menu, diners should be able to find a number of dishes that are mostly popular in Berlin such as their schnitzel and their charcuterie.
There’s no need to worry for those unfamiliar with German cuisine however. Aside from these dishes, the Newton also offers a number of pasta dishes, seafood, and steak.
The drinks are particularly impressive, featuring a number of beers, wines, spirits, and ciders. For those who aren’t sure to start, their mixologists should be able to help prepare a cocktail that will appeal to your flavour palate.
Do note that depending on the dishes you ordered, it might take a while for them to come out of the kitchen. Prices can be a bit on the expensive side as well, depending on the dish.
In our opinion, this makes Newton a perfect place to visit for both first-timers and seasoned foodies. We also think that it’s not a bad place to just come in and have a drink.
Pros
- Great selection of drinks and food
- Impressive customer service by the staff
Cons
- Prices are slightly more expensive than other eateries
- Some starters might take a while to come out
Customer Reviews

2. Ernst Biergarten
RATING | |
MENU | ★★★★☆ (4/5) |
AMBIANCE | ★★★★☆ (4.5/5) |
CUSTOMER SERVICE | ★★★★☆ (4.5/5) |
ACCESSIBILITY | ★★★★★ (5/5) |
Offering a great German pub experience, Ernst Biergarten offers a good variety of European dishes and German beers on draught. Their German-led kitchen team is capable of producing great German and Bavarian cuisine, making them a good first stop for beginners.
Upon entering the restaurant, the first thing you might notice is the size. Combining both the indoor and outdoor seating arrangements can allow for up to 429 guests, so you don’t have to worry about finding a table to sit down in.
We think this is a good place for people who want to experience some kind of buzz inside the establishment. We also think it’s a good dining place for larger groups of friends and families.
The place also plays a lot of live sport matches across their multiple screens, further accenting the ‘pub-like’ ambiance of the restaurant. Eating staple food like pretzels, sausages, and even their sharing plates will certainly feel like a lively affair in our opinion.
This does mean that diners looking for a more intimate setting might feel rather overwhelmed. Going to the Ernst at a time any major games are playing could have a rather loud ambiance.
Fortunately, people looking for a quieter experience can rent a private dining room. In our opinion, this grants the place a good amount of versatility, making it a good place to eat for any occasion.
As a traditional biergarten and wirtshaus, they do serve pork in the establishment. Diners with special dietary requirements may want to keep that in mind though they do offer other non-pork dishes in their menu.
Pros
- Very lively atmosphere
- Dogs are allowed on the terrace, for dog lovers
Cons
- Huge capacity can lead to busy service
- Main dining room can be a little loud at times

Definitely to be recommended. You also can get the real pork meat or you choose the halal style veal and beef.” – Reiner Klohn
3. Allegra Bar
RATING | |
MENU | ★★★★☆ (4/5) |
AMBIANCE | ★★★★★ (5/5) |
CUSTOMER SERVICE | ★★★★★ (5/5) |
ACCESSIBILITY | ★★★★☆ (4/5) |
Looking to dine and drink lightly? Revier Hotel’s Allegra Bar is a great place to visit when you are in the area.
The lounge offers a great panoramic view of the city, lending it quite a chic atmosphere to just relax with a good drink or two. We think the lounge offers a good modern vibe making it perfect for pictures on social media.
We think women in particular will enjoy their Foxy Ladies Night, which is held every Wednesday and Saturday. For only AED 100, women can get 3 drinks and a food option from a special menu made by Chef Kay, while also listening to great Swiss music played by DJ Bianca Marciuc.
Despite the rather modern vibe, service is still very good and welcoming. Just ask them for any particular consideration you want and they will try their best to accommodate it.
Aside from their ladies’ night, you can also enjoy the evening with their High Five Happy Hour. During this time, you can enjoy a good deal and see beer bottle prices drop down up to AED 25 and wine bottles drop down to AED 125 per bottle.
Food selection isn’t too huge unfortunately. It is mostly down to bar snacks or light meals that you eat during social drinking.
It is not exactly the most extensive food menu, but if you are after a good place to unwind, socialise, and perhaps even party for the night, then Allegra Bar is a good place for you.
Pros
- Delicious food
- Great, modern ambiance
Cons
- Menu is a little small when it comes to food
- Some drinks are on the expensive side outside of deals
Customer Reviews
“Not what you usually see in other places in Dubai”

“Plenty of solid mid-range options”
“Had the mushroom risotto…flavor and texture was on point. The wine list was wide-ranging and provided plenty of solid mid-range options. Fitting for the hotel, price to quality ratio was very much on the high side.” – jdub1028
4. Alphorn Restaurant
RATING | |
MENU | ★★★★★ (5/5) |
AMBIANCE | ★★★★★ (5/5) |
CUSTOMER SERVICE | ★★★★☆ (4/5) |
ACCESSIBILITY | ★★★★☆ (4/5) |
In the same Revier Hotel as the Allegra Bar, you can also visit the Alphorn Restaurant. This time, Alphorn offers a more relaxed, casual, and contemporary atmosphere as well as international cuisine that suits a wide array of palates.
The ambiance of the place is still on the more modern side, with plenty of beautiful views of the surrounding cityscape. Still, we think the more relaxed ambiance of the restaurant makes it conducive for having a hearty morning breakfast as well as a quick business lunch in the afternoons.
Like the Allegra Bar, the Alphorn does have their own deals for their customers. For instance, you can get a 2-course menu for AED 55 (AED 59 if bought with a soft drink) from their business lunch menu.
In our opinion, this is a good deal for people who just need something affordable and quick for their lunch. Aside from that, they also have a smaller kids’ menu with a lot of favourites in case your little ones are picky eaters.
Pizza and pasta lovers may also enjoy a delicious Italian night with Alphorn’s Bocca Felice Night. You can get any oven-made pizza or authentic handmade pasta dish and drinks for only AED 115.
Still, this is definitely a dining spot that you want to work in your schedule. While they are open pretty much the whole week, there is some downtime in-between major meals of the day.
If you don’t get the timing right though, you might find yourself waiting for a while before being seated. This place can get pretty booked.
Still, if you are looking for a good, delicious meal, in a more relaxed environment, you can give Alphorn Restaurant a try!
Pros
- A varied menu that suits a wide array of tastes
- Great business lunch deals for people on the go
Cons
- You need to keep an eye out for their downtimes
- Outdoor seating can be quite hot during the summer

5. German Doner Kebab
RATING | |
MENU | ★★★★★ (5/5) |
AMBIANCE | ★★★☆☆ (3.5/5) |
CUSTOMER SERVICE | ★★★★☆ (4/5) |
ACCESSIBILITY | ★★★★★ (5/5) |
Originally opening their first store in Berlin back in 1989, German Doner Kebab has now grown to operate in multiple countries, including at least four locations in Dubai alone.
The restaurant offers a good variety of authentic and healthy kebabs on their menu, ensuring that people have options. They take care to use halal meat in their cooking so diners who are particular about that shouldn’t have to worry.
The ambiance of their branches is quite consistent; striking orange and black make up the brand’s colourway and it does lend well to its modern look. In our opinion, it does feel like a chain restaurant, which isn’t a bad thing but some people looking for a more ‘refined’ ambiance may not find it too relaxing.
Still, the customer service at their branches is top-notch. Servers are kind and warm, greeting customers as they come in.
The food is very good, offering flavourful kebabs, burgers, and sides while also toning down the calorie count. In our opinion, German Doner Kebab is wonderful for people looking for a quick snack that they may also enjoy on the go.
It is also open in at least four locations across Dubai, making it quite accessible for many customers. So if you’re in one of the areas they operate in and you’re looking for a delicious snack, then why not pop in for a quick bite?
Pros
- Accommodating staff
- Huge selection of flavorful meat and vegetable dishes
- Menu options for pickier kids
Cons
- Dimly-lit room might make it hard to read the menu
- Service is dinner only
- Changing reservation times at the last minute can be difficult
