Founded back in 2006, the Eton Institute has provided educational instruction to over 200,000 learners in both Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
Their long years of operation has allowed them to build a very good language program, offering instruction in Arabic, Business English, Turkish, Chinese, Korean, Japanese, and many others here in Dubai.
Japanese lessons in Dubai here at Eton have a free placement test, allowing them to better tailor the coursework and approach to your current level.
Professors also displayed good mastery of their subject in our opinion, and they’re able to provide adequate assistance to learners struggling with either the basics or more complex portions of the class.
Prices are quite competitive as well, in our opinion, especially for their group classes. We think they’re one of the more accessible ways to learn Japanese here in Dubai as a result.
There’s a few reports of instructors starting late, however. It’s not too frequent though and it didn’t seem to have derailed the lessons for long.
Phone service can be quite slow too so expect some wait time should you need to request a quote or ask a question regarding your course or schedule.
Overall, Eton Institute is a good start in learning foreign languages here in Dubai. We found them to be quite competitive and as such, highly recommend them to most beginners.
Pros
- Decent selection of different languages and courses
- Good mastery of the language class
Cons
- Some long hold times on the phone

We like Pomegranate Institute because they focus on cultural and professional development. As such, they’re able to offer a variety of courses that’s related to this umbrella.
Foreign languages are obviously included in their packages but you can also take up some other basic learning packages. Some of these relate to problem solving, conflict management, presentation skills, and even some finance basics.
However, language is what Pomegranate is quite known for with a decent array to choose from. You can learn German, French, Spanish, English, Chinese, and of course, Japanese.
Their Japanese course is structured to run for about ten weeks which we think gives beginners plenty of time to get acquainted with the language. This makes it easier to learn more complex instructions later on.
We found staff to be quite patient and helpful as well. They’re able to adjust their teaching style depending on the proficiency of the learner they’re assisting.
Teachers are, more of than not, punctual too. We think busier students will appreciate this level of professionalism from Pomegranate.
Call backs can take some time though which can be inconvenient. This was the same experience both when it came to asking for a quote or making an inquiry about the course.
Facilities are very good, for the most part. We do advise those with their own vehicles to come in early since it can be quite crowded in the parking lot.
Pros
- Well-equipped learning centres
- Punctual and accommodating instructors
Cons
- Takes some time to respond to inquiries
- Parking can be quite difficult

Operating in multiple countries, Berlitz takes all of the expertise they’ve developed since 1878 in order to provide a comprehensive language learning program here in Dubai.
Their schools teach a wide array of languages such as Mandarin, Korean, Japanese, Hebrew, Russian, Spanish, and many others. We like that they try to employ actual native speakers to teach.
They employ their ‘Berlitz Method’ where instructors really use the target language in all aspects of the course. This gives their learners some time to really exercise the language in their day-to-day life.
We think this could be useful for people who want to really practice the words and pronunciation they’ve learned, applying it in contexts outside the usual realms of business, travel, and the classroom.
Of course, we do acknowledge that for some people, this could be a bit of a shock especially for beginners.
Fortunately, we did find that coursework is generally handled well enough, giving beginners plenty of breathing space to practice their skills with adequate assistance.
Some students did say that the well-curated nature of the coursework did make it hard to reschedule classes in case something unexpected happened.
We also found some delays in the phone service and reception, leaving some students to hold their question and wait a few hours.
Still, we think Berlitz’s expertise is quite handy for getting people to really practice their chosen language. As such, we recommend their expertise to anyone hoping to take up Japanese lessons in Dubai.
Pros
- Great instruction when it comes to chosen language
- Coursework is well-organised
Cons
- Reception is a little slow
- Rescheduling due to unforeseen factors can be difficult

Level Up Knowledge is a training institute approved by the Knowledge & Human Development Authority (KHDA), making them a reliable way to boost your expertise in Dubai.
They offer some great courses regarding different foreign languages, computer skills, interior design, and even a few review courses geared towards exam preparation.
From what we observed, their approach to teaching foreign languages definitely lean more on the practical side. Instructors approach the class as if the knowledge will be used for moving to a different country or working with them in a professional setting.
As such, we think their Japanese lessons to be quite good in getting your basics up to scratch when it comes to matters of navigation and business.
Instruction is quite focused, and many learners reported their assigned teachers to be quite good at pacing the lesson. They also provide great help to those struggling with the coursework.
There were a few reports of students finding some of the classrooms to be a little cramped however. Especially when they get assigned to a rather big group, making noise levels just a bit higher.
Additionally, some students also reported encountering lines and delays when it comes to payment processing and refunds. They mentioned that it took at least a couple of hours should you have some errors to correct at this part.
Aside from those hiccups though, instruction at Level Up is quite solid. As such, we recommend those interested in travelling or working in Japan to give their language courses a try.

Prime Focus Educational Services is known in Dubai as a training institute for language, personal development, and IT. They even have instructors for music and art too!
They opened their first office in Dubai back in 2015. They’ve since expanded their team to around 200 tutors and staff, allowing them to accommodate bigger groups.
Prime Focus Educational Services’ Japanese course is well-structured to teach learners the fundamental aspects of the language. It even includes some handy tips when it comes to pronunciation which, in our opinion, is very useful.
The course comes in three tiers: Basic, Intermediate, and Advanced. That way, you should be able to skip some of the easier stuff if you’ve already started your lessons elsewhere.
We think this allows Prime to accommodate a wide array of different learners in the building. Instructors are very good and professional too; always arriving on time and making effective use of the day.
Overall, we find the course to be well worth the money paid, especially as it does seem a bit pricier than other Japanese lessons in Dubai.
One thing we could see some improvement though is with the reception and service. Some students reported waiting a while before they could get a follow-up via email or phone.
Still, we do find the institute to be another great place for learning new languages or courses here in Dubai. We recommend giving them a try if you’re interested.
Pros
- Good progression for rising skill levels
- Very punctual instructors
Cons
- Takes some time to respond to quote inquiries
- Some basic courses are a bit pricey
