Established by a husband-and-wife tandem, The Roost is a chicken restaurant that aims to deliver affordable roast chicken and other sides. They take pride in their use of free-range, antibiotic-free, locally-sourced poultry in Dubai.
Their menu hinges on roast chicken served either as individual pieces (thighs, legs, breasts), to whole chickens that can be shared by a big group or family. Customers may even order up to four whole chickens at a time.
The prices are a bit higher than other roast places but the taste and portion sizes are worth it in our opinion.
The ability to order multiple whole chickens also makes us think it’s perfect for big gatherings like birthdays or even victory celebrations in sports. Waiting times are quite reasonable as well, with the food being sent out at a decent pace.
Service is quite good and we found the staff to be quite attentive even during busy times. They’re very polite when answering our questions about the food as well.
The ambiance of the restaurant is also very good. We think the lighting is just right, without it feeling too bright or too dim to enjoy our dinner.
However, we think parking space is a bit limited near the restaurant. In our experience, we found this to usually occur around lunchtime starting from 12 PM onwards.
Still, we definitely recommend checking out The Roost if you’re craving some whole roast chicken goodness.

A very popular chicken chain, Al Baik has opened its doors in the UAE starting at the Dubai Mall. They are quite popular for their fried chicken and chicken nuggets worldwide.
Based on this reputation, we do think that their dishes certainly lived up to the hype. Whether it’s their rather large big baik sandwich, or their more compact chicken nugget options, their food is a good mix of crunch and flavourful tenderness.
As a result, it’s not unusual to find their stall to be quite packed. The sheer number of customers wanting a bite of their chicken makes lunch service take quite a while.
Some customers have even waited for around two hours during a particularly long line. In our opinion, a trip here should be done for when you have some free time, and not when you’re thinking of getting them as a quick business lunch.
There’s no table booking either, so you can’t exactly reserve a seat in advance.
The interior is quite decent and simple. We are reminded of a cafeteria style setup with long tables that seat around four at a time.
Service itself is quite fast, with the food coming out in a timely manner. The lines are certainly longer than the waiting time for the food.
Still, the fried chicken is worth the wait. If you have the time and are not too busy, we definitely recommend trying out an item from Al Baik.

Texas Chicken brings in the taste of Texas spice in their chicken while delivering a satisfying crunch and bite in every meal. They primarily take pride in simple, familiar dishes executed well.
The interior of the restaurant does feel like a fast food place, with wide counters and adequate walking space. It’s decent, though not as fancy as other restaurants.
They have a decent selection of chicken dishes ranging from whole fried chicken pieces, to tenders, to sandwiches and wraps. A lot of it is also prepared quite fast, making it perfect for quick business lunches.
The food is also quite affordable in our opinion. You can have a two or three piece chicken meal with sides and drinks for under AED 40.
Customers can also use partners like the Entertainer app to get more discounts.
We think their sides could be improved however. While their fries and nuggets retain that crisp we’re looking for, we did find the biscuits and mashed potatoes to be quite basic.
Service is very good, with staff getting the food out at a reasonable pace. However, it is a bit hard to reach them on the phone, with multiple branches sharing the same hotline.
Fortunately, it is quite easy to order online and get food delivered to your place.
For fast service and tasty dishes, we recommend giving Texas Chicken a try. We think kids will like the selection of dishes in particular.

Among the places in our list, JJ stands out via their grilled chicken offering. We think people looking beyond rotisserie and fried options may appreciate their charcoal grilled chicken.
We also found their food selection to be quite diverse, offering sandwiches and wraps done in different styles with different vegetable and sauce accompaniments.
Aside from that, they also have soups and salads. In our opinion, this makes their menu quite flexible, allowing diners to adjust their calorie intake and make their meals as healthy as they want.
They have multiple branches as well, which makes it quite convenient to visit. However, we did find it quite difficult to get a reply on their phone line due to it being busy.
And while the locations are quite accessible, this does make parking quite inconsistent. We found some branches to have limited parking space, requiring customers to park their vehicles elsewhere.

The restaurant offers a very large selection of delicious Thai food, ranging from traditional dishes like Tom Yum, to more inspired dishes like their chicken and dumpling selections.
Their wings are quite popular, making it perfect as an appetiser or paired with some soup or noodles. They also have barbecued chicken done with a distinct Thai style.
Aside from their chicken, they also have a host of salads and seafood, which we think makes the selection quite diverse. We think this gives guests who may be a bit bored of chicken other options to choose from during a night out.
The restaurant opens a bit later than the other places we’ve listed though they also close later due to their happy hour. This does mean that after a certain point, children are no longer allowed in once the alcohol starts flowing.
As such, we think families may want to visit the restaurant earlier before the happy hour starts.
The place has a very good ambiance and it can get quite energetic once the live music and sing-a-longs start. We think this makes it a great gastronomical stop to enjoy with friends and colleagues as a way to unwind.
