A Dubai Opera Travel Guide

A Dubai Opera Travel Guide

It may be known as the modern city in the middle of the desert but Dubai is also a highly cultural metropolis with buildings dedicated to promoting the city’s culture and the arts.

The Dubai Opera is the city’s first performing arts theater, and it’s become the venue of many musicals, dramas and shows since it was launched in 2016.

In this guide, you’ll learn everything you need to know about the famous Dubai Opera.

What is the Dubai Opera?

The Dubai Opera is a performing arts theater located in Downtown Dubai where dramas, operas and theater shows are held.

Designed by Architect Janus Rostock, the Dubai Opera resembles a “Dhow” or traditional boat that was used by fishermen in Dubai before.

The building covers 35,000 square meters of space over eight floors with a stunning chandelier in the heart of the structure.

Aptly named “Symphony,” this three-storey high cascading chandelier was created by Czech company LASVIT and adds to the glamorous ambiance of the opera.

But the Dubai Opera isn’t just your typical theater because this building can transform from a traditional theater setup to a flat floor plan to cater to other events in the city.

As a theater, the Dubai Opera can accommodate up to 2,000 guests and when it’s flat, it can transform into a 36 x 56 meter space for concerts, lectures and other events.

Best Time to Go

Since the Dubai Opera is an indoor facility, you can enjoy shows at any time of the year.

Just make sure to book tickets ahead since shows can get easily sold out, especially during peak season.

Things to Know

If you’re ready to see your first show at the Dubai Opera, here are some tips that will help you make the experience more memorable:

  • Book your tickets ahead. The Dubai Opera has regular shows throughout the year. So, if you plan to watch one of these shows, make sure to book a ticket ahead to secure your seat.
  • Dress appropriately. There’s no strict dress code in the Dubai Opera. But since the venue is designed for glamorous shows, most people wear dresses and suits to watch them.
  • Parking is easy. The Dubai Opera has a dedicated parking zone for guests, so you don’t need to worry about finding a spot. But if you want to park near the venue, it’s best to go early.
