What is Dubai Sports City?
Dubai Sports City is a multi-use development that’s built around major sports venues and various sports academies.
Opened in 2008, this community has a mix of residential, dining, retail, sports and recreational amenities centered around an active lifestyle.
The entire development spans over 465 hectares divided into residential towers, sports venues, retail spaces and sports institutions.
Dubai Sports City is the brainchild of two of the top entrepreneurs in the country, Abdulrahman Falaknaz and Abdul Rahim Al Zarooni.
Sports Venues at Dubai Sports City
Dubai Sports City is home to five of the best sports complexes, courses and fields in the entire city.
Dubai International Stadium
Known as the crowning glory of Dubai Sports City, the Dubai International Stadium has a 25,000 seating capacity and it’s one of the top three cricket stadiums in the UAE.
Designed by the Canadian architect Awsam Matloob, the stadium is home to the United Arab Emirates National Cricket Team and Dubai Capitals.
The match between Australia and Pakistan was the first event at the Dubai International Stadium held in 2009.
It also hosted some of cricket’s top events including the 2018 Asia Cup Final, the 2019 Pakistan Super League, the ICC T20 World Cup and the Indian Premier League.
Although the Dubai International Stadium was primarily designed for cricket matches, it can also be used for concerts, conferences and other events.
The ELS Club
One of the top golf courses in Dubai, The Els Club is designed by the South African legend himself Ernie Els.
Boasting a 7,538 yard desert links course, each hole is inspired by Els’ favorite golf courses from different parts of the world.
But more than being a world-class golf course, The Els Club also boasts of resort-style facilities including two smiling pools, a gym, padel courts and different dining options.
ICC Academy
The ICC Academy is a cricket center next to the headquarters of the International Cricket Council in Dubai Sports City.
Aside from being the most popular cricket academy in Dubai, this facility also has two internationally accredited ovals, a floodlit cricket cage and an outdoor training floodlit facility.
It also has an Olympic sized swimming pool, indoor and outdoor gym, and conditioning center.
With its world-class facilities, the ICC Academy has hosted several local and international cricket events over the years including the T20 World Cup Qualifiers.
Dubai Knights Eagles Rugby Club
Dubai Spors City is also the home of the Dubai Knights Eagles Rugby Club, the third largest rugby facility in the Middle East.
This sports venue has eight floodlit rugby, netball and cricket pitches, several gyms and treatment rooms in case of sports injuries.
The rugby club regularly hosts different local and international matches, and it also caters to players and aspiring rugby athletes who want to train on its turf.
LaLiga Academy
LaLiga is the strongest league in football and it created the LaLiga Academy in Dubai to offer an avenue for aspiring football players to hone their skills and get discovered by professionals.
Being recognized around the world as the gold standard in football training, its facility includes two full sized outdoor pitches and a full sized indoor pitch with a FIFA 2-star approved competition turf.
Claude Harmon III Performance Golf Academy
The Harmon family has been training aspiring golf players for over three generations, and they have several golf academies throughout the United States.
The Claude Harmon III Performance Golf Academy is the first and only institute that was opened by the Harmon family outside the US.
Located in Dubai Sports City, it has two indoor full swing studios, a putting studio, the Sam Putt Lab and a gym.
The academy also has state-of-the-art amenities like the K-Vest 3D Motion Capture, SAM Balance Lab and Boditrak Pressure Mat and Trackman Launch Monitor.
Sports Village
Right at the heart of Dubai Sports City is the Sports Village. Here, you’ll find a wide variety of venues for almost every major sport.
These include cricket ovals, artificial and real football pitches, tennis courts and a runing track that can be used for leisure playing, practices, trainings and matches.
The Sports Village also has seating options for spectators to watch games comfortably.
Best Time to Go
Dubai Sports City is open all year round with different sporting events happening in its many venues throughout the year.

Although Dubai Sports City is developed with sports in mind, it’s also a complete community with these amenities:
- Schools
Families living in Dubai Sports City can send their kids to The Wonder Years Nursery and the Victory Heights Primary School that follows the British Curriculum.
- Religious Establishments
Dubai Sports City has two mosques on either side of the development, so residents don’t need to go out of the community to practice their faith.
There are also many temples and churches nearby for residents who practice other religions.
- Parking
Residential towers in Dubai Sports City have covered parking spaces for residents. Visitors, on the other hand, can park in open public parking spaces.
- Supermarkets
Dubai Sports City has the international chain Carrefour and Al Maya Supermarket where residents can go grocery shopping.
- Healthcare Facilities
Although the community doesn’t have its own hospital yet, the Medcare Medical Center is just a 6-minute drive away.
How to Get Around
Trains: If you’re going to Dubai Sports City by train, stop at the Baniyas Square Metro Station, which is a 5-minute walk away.
Buses: Bus lines 11A, 27, C9 and E400 have stations near Dubai Sports City. Check this list to know where exactly you should stop if you’re going to the community by bus.
Taxis: Booking a taxi is still the most convenient way to reach Dubai Sports City. Book a ride through Uber or Careem from wherever you are in the city.
